The press days of the 63rd IAA Commercial Vehicles Show, the world's leading trade fair dedicated to transport and logistics, wrapped up Wednesday with dozens of new vehicle and accessory debuts. Over 1750 exhibitors fill the Hannover Messe, promoting the efficiency and flexibility of trucks, buses, utility vans, etc.
Right alongside the American Trucking section, the Scuderi booth displays the prototype model with the team emphasizing the air-hybrid component and it's Diesel application qualities. Most often thought of as a gas engine, the Scuderi Engine's technology is also applicable to all sorts of commercial vehicles (buses, trucks, trains, marine) and power generation (generators, compressors).
As expected, the reduction in NOx is a big topic at the booth, especially as commercial fleets struggle to meet Euro 6 and U.S. emissions standards. Early studies show that the Scuderi Engine will be up to 50 percent more efficient, generate higher power and produce less toxic emissions. Very little NOx is created and would be up to 80% less than a regular engine. Further, given the engine's unique and revolutionary combustion process, there is the potential to eliminate EGR/SCR systems. That could results in a potential savings of up to $20,000 or more.
When the engine is converted to an Air-Hybrid, more advantages come into play. For example, because there is a dedicated compressor inside the engine, air can be used to power accessories. For example, there would be no need to haul in additional compressors to job sites because air tools and other accessories can simply run off the vehicle's engine.
The luxurious Superbus made its world debut. Out of the Technical University of Delft (Holland), the presenters
said the vehicle is all electric and can reach speeds up to 250 km/hr.
